Talk - talk - TALK!

That's the way to learn a language! Over the last 20 years I've helped all kinds of learners - from complete beginners all the way up to university students, from kindergarten-age kids to company CEOs and pretty much everything in between. I've also taught Chinese, French and Spanish for beginners.

In the classroom, I avoid speaking anything but our target language. Even though I would understand if a student told me something in another language I understand, I try to have them explain to me only in English - no matter what their level! That's the best way to improve.

"Hey, are you here to speak English - or to practice your native language that YOU can already speak?"

What I see as an advantage is that I've been in the position of the learner so many times: In South Korea, in Taiwan and here in Germany... so I definitely know how it is to be on the other side of the table. I anticipate a lot of the difficulties a learner can have - and I also understand that not everybody had the most understanding language teacher at school. A bad experience at school can put people off learning languages for life - and that's a real shame so I do my absolute best to make sure my students are having fun while learning.
