I like my lessons to be educational, fun and a safe space to learn.
Often times students are nervous to speak English. Do not worry, in my class I create an open, safe environment, free of judgement, and only focused on learning!
We will speak English from the beginning of the lesson, and the lessons will be structured around a chosen topic, such as food, hobbies, the weather. In some cases, the student may even choose the topic they would like to speak about themselves.
Using some textbook lesson plans, we will proceed through the lesson at the speed suitable for the student. We will practice sentence structure, verbs, nouns and pronouns, and also 'sounding out' difficult words syllable by syllable. At the end of the lesson I will ask the student to reflect on their lesson. What was easy? What was difficult? Where would they like to focus on learning more? I will then give my constructive opinion on the lesson and together we will form a plan for the next lessons learning. I like to work this way because the student is then also actively participating in their lesson structure, it allows us to move at the speed suitable for the student, and it build confidence in my students, which is what we want!
It may be beneficial for the student to have access to the same learning textbooks as I have, so that they may see the words (certain students learn better this way), but it is not necessary.
