I recieved CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) training in Prague, Czechia, where I taught students from a broad variety of backgrounds, from High School students to grandparents learning English to communicate with their Grandchildren, from Czech natives to Ukrainian immigrants, and more. Working in such a diverse environment was an honour, and helped me to hone my craft as a teacher.
In Ontario, Canada, I worked as a self-employed English teacher, working with high school ESL students who recently immigrated to Canada. In addition to aiding with their English coursework, I encouraged students to discuss their favourite English movies, tv shows, albums and books with me as well as offered my own recommendations. I found that focusing lessons helped to keep students engaged, as the content was more relatable, but also helped to get them excited about English and all of the new media that can be explored with a stronger understanding of the language.
My lessons are one-on-one, highly personalized, and low stakes. I understand the intimidation and fear that can come with learning a new language, and I'll work hard to make lessons as digestible and fun as possible. Conversational practice and writing activities are my specialty!
