I appreciate and use recent method and books of learning chemistry, recent literatures. Lessons and exercises included in power point explanations and examples. Solution of exercises and homework's. The explanations will begin with general chemistry that is the base of chemistry, then is going to extend the knowledges according the group interest.
BASIC CONCEPTS
• Familiarity with the history of the development of Chemistry, the basic concepts and laws of chemistry, chemical equations and calculations based on them, energy phenomena that accompany chemical reactions.
• Knowledge of the construction of atoms, the classification of elements in the periodic system, the construction of molecules (chemical bonds), their geometric shape.
• Properties of different aggregate states of matter (gaseous, liquid, solid).
• The study of chemical reactions, the speed of their development and the factors that affect the chemical balance.
• Solutions, their concentrations, colligative properties, biological importance.
• Homogeneous ion balances, solutions of acids and bases, pH, hydrolysis, buffer solutions and their biological significance; redox reactions. Theories of Lowry-Bronsted and Lewis for acids and bases.
• Heterogeneous ionic equilibria, sparingly soluble substances, solubility product. Complex compounds, chemical bonding in them, their properties.
• Electrochemistry, which includes the galvanic cell, electrolysis, batteries and corrosion of metals. Systematic study of elements of the periodic system and related compounds.
COMPETENCIES THAT ARE ACQUIRED THROUGH THE COURSE
Equipping students with a scientific base of knowledge and concepts on chemistry and the clear writing of these concepts and theories.
Students should be able to clearly present scientific information verbally, graphically and mathematically.
Students should be able to do simple mathematical calculations.
Students understand the direct impact of chemistry on their professional life.
Students understand the great contribution that chemistry gives to the social and economic development of society.
Students recognize the role of chemistry in explaining many medical phenomena in general.
