In order to have effective teaching, there are many factors that must be taken into consideration. All of them, however, need to be according to the target language learners. Coursebooks, tasks, and techniques are better to be chosen regarding the student’s needs.

In order to have effective teaching, there are many factors that must be taken into consideration. All of them, however, need to be according to the target language learners. Coursebooks, tasks, and techniques are better to be chosen regarding the student’s needs.
If the purpose of learning a second/foreign language is communication, speaking-oriented books which also work on the other language skills (listening, writing, and reading) are the most efficient. Complementary books, also, are always good aids to bring variety to class.
Having a variety of tasks with an appropriate order of difficulty can help scaffold learning to the point that learners are able to produce the TL on their own. Ideally, tasks must be designed regarding different learning intelligence e.g., visual, audial, logical, etc.
There are hundreds of techniques that can be used in ESL/EFL classes. However, when it comes to online sessions, the teacher needs to use the ones that bring interaction between the students. Having group/pair work alongside asking individuals to participate in activities makes the learning environment more student-oriented and therefore less boring meantime more effective in terms of learning.
All and all, in my pint of view, a teacher must try to bring out the learner’s potential and give them confidence by helping them gain the skills instead of only talking about the language. This can happen for teachers when they have both knowledge and experience.
