My name is Ben Mawdsley. I am a Canadian English teacher and I have been teaching both online and in the classroom for over 7 years. In 2015, I graduated with a double major from Saint Mary's University in Halifax. Following my graduation I moved to Australia where I embarked on a solo 12,000km motorcycle journey. It was on this ride where I decided to become an educator. Some months later, I moved to Vietnam, where I received my 120+ hour TEFL Certificate through Fort Hays State University. Upon graduating the TEFL program there, I began my teaching career. After working for Wall Street English for 8 months, I decided to take up a Senior Teacher position at the Center for Foreign Affairs and International Languages (CEFALT) in Ho Chi Minh City. This institution was headed by Vietnam's State Department, where I was quickly promoted to Team Leader. For three years, I taught all ages and English levels at CEFALT. During my tenure at CEFALT, I also started writing freelance for Vietnam's largest newspaper, Tuoi Tre. My articles were written in both English and Vietnamese - feel free to Google search me at Ben Mawdsley Tuoi Tre. With that said, I have an intermediate level of fluency in Vietnamese. When the global pandemic struck in early 2020, I decided to move to Germany to live with my girlfriend. Since then, I have been taken on various online roles such as online tutoring, education consulting, and life coaching on a number of platforms. I also have an extensive culinary background.
As you can see, I have a unique background that has helped me develop a teaching style that is engaging, informative, and enjoyable for my students. My intermediate fluency in Vietnamese, German, Spanish and French has allowed me to connect with students from a multitude of diverse backgrounds, and I often try to incorporate my world of experience in different fields, including my extensive culinary background, into my teaching methods. Whether I am teaching children or adults, I always strive to create a special bond with my students that enables them to make meaningful progress in their language learning journey. My experience has taught me that the most important part of this bond is when parents tell me they are happy with the progress their children are making. I am excited to get started and to help you achieve your language learning goals!
