I am a teacher with twenty years of experience,i started teaching as far back as in 2003 in the Gambia, i have ten year appointment with the MINISTRY OF BASIC AND SECONDARY EDUCATION (MOBSE) of The Gambia,as a science teacher at the middle school for first four years and taught in private schools also for many years.And i later moved to high school after seven years of teaching at the middle school. i taught biology and chemistry at the high schools four thirteen years, with experience in both WEST AFRICAN EXAMINATION COUNCIL (WAEC) and IGCSE curriculum,the British syllabus.
The methodology we use to teach in Africa might be little different from the western,but at least at the end of each class,the student must be able to understand the key point from a topic that is fully expressed and understanding.As a teacher you prepare your scheme and lesson plan weekly,in essence what you are to teach,step,contents of your topics,students evaluation,materials and remarks for the students at the end of each weeks Most of the materials and the method of teaching we use are quite different from the the western world,but with my experience also with the British syllabus, i discover that the different are not broad.Our major materials in teaching are,blackboard,chalk and textbooks are the used in schools. And sometimes we come to class with teaching aids.As biology and chemistry teacher, i organised a practical class on Saturday, mostly for the exam class of grade twelve, and weekdays for the eleventh grade.Teacher uses uniform textbooks with the students,explain the topic according to he or her scheme and lesson plan, and the students shows concentration. And at the end of each class,there is always evaluation,the students are given chance to asked question on any difficult areas and teacher answered the question
