My teaching approach is a blend of my professional background in architecture and my passion for art, adapted to cater to the unique needs and circumstances of inner city youths at the National Gallery of Jamaica. As an architect, I've learned to break complex concepts down into manageable components, a skill I bring to my teaching. My lessons are characterized by simplicity and a deep understanding of individual learning styles.
At the National Gallery of Jamaica, I've focused on teaching art, but my methodology extends beyond the canvas. I emphasize visual teaching techniques, encouraging students to explore and express themselves through art while incorporating language skills. Visual aids, such as diagrams and drawings, play a central role in explaining English concepts, making abstract ideas more concrete and accessible to students.
I believe that understanding how each student learns best is paramount. I take the time to assess their strengths and weaknesses, their preferred learning styles, and their interests. This information allows me to tailor lessons to their specific needs, ensuring that they remain engaged and motivated throughout the learning process.
Drawing from my architectural knowledge, I create structured and organized lesson plans that are easy to follow. I use real-world examples to relate English language concepts to the students, making the material more relatable and practical. My teaching dynamics involve a collaborative atmosphere where students are encouraged to ask questions and express their thoughts freely, fostering an interactive and inclusive learning environment.
While my professional background may not be in education, my commitment to helping inner city youths bridge the gap in language and art is unwavering. I believe that my unique approach, combining my architectural skills with a passion for visual teaching and a deep understanding of individual learning styles, has proven effective in my volunteer teaching experience at the National Gallery of Jamaica. I am dedicated to continuing to make a positive impact on my students' lives by making learning an engaging and personalized journey.
