My teaching method is always tailored to the student because every person has unique interests and learning styles. My main goal is to use these interests as a bridge to help students connect with the English language. For example, if I have a student who loves music, I incorporate that passion into our lessons by discussing their favorite music genres and artists, sharing relevant articles or video reports, and sparking conversations that keep them engaged. This approach fuels their curiosity and encourages them to share their discoveries, helping them realize how much they can learn and retain through this new language. With this method, I’m teaching English in a way that’s fresh and engaging, not the traditional, rote style, but one that leverages their personal interests to benefit us both.
Homework plays a vital role in keeping the student connected to what they've learned, but it shouldn’t be hours of dull assignments. Practical, hands-on tasks are far more effective in helping the material stick. When I worked with children, I encouraged parents to speak English with them at home, so the practice extended beyond our lessons and created a supportive environment for learning. Even parents who already spoke English could learn new vocabulary or reinforce grammar rules, while those who didn’t gained the chance to pick up the language themselves. Most importantly, it provided the children with a safe and familiar space to practice, ensuring they didn’t have to wait days for the next class to reconnect with the language.
