Catie Rutledge

I am a native English speaker from the United States with a cumulative 5 years of teaching experience. I have experience with tutoring English, Theatre, Creative Writing, Math, and Art History. My teaching methodology emphasizes an empathetic connection with the student; I believe safety and trust must be created and maintained in order to create an effective learning environment.

As a Writing Fellow at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I was given the feedback that I am straightforward and kind as an instructor. In this position, I worked with students one-on-one to edit their written work. I focused on word choice, clarity of ideas, organizational structure, and overall flow of language.

I aim for understanding, and am happy to employ a variety of methods to find what suits you best. I believe learning should be fun, and should enhance your experience of the world.
