I started learning English at a very young age, and acquired a C1 proficiency (IELTS: 8.0) in March 2021. One year later I started my postgraduate studies at Trinity College Dublin (and finished them with First Class Honours and a Distinction), whilst also working a part-time job there. The experience of living in an English-speaking country, having constant conversations with locals, and submitting my assignments and Master's thesis in English, contributed to my near-native familiarity with the language. Also, as a non-native English speaker, I am aware of all the difficulties and misunderstandings that may occur along the way.
As soon as I had reached a certain level of understanding English, I started reading books. It is a great source for expanding one's vocabulary, and an important exercise: there is not always a possibility to look up an unknown word in a dictionary or in an online translator, therefore, books can teach us to gather all the necessary information from the context to understand certain words, or they may even provide us with new ways of usage for the words one is already familiar with.
I have always wanted to become a professor, and I do believe that any lessons should combine not only the subject itself, but also critical thinking. Therefore, I would like to implement the aforementioned learning strategy in my teachings.
