CELTA qualified native-speaker teacher from the UK with over 20 years of experience

Hello everyone, my name’s Carl and I’m from Bristol in England. Bristol is a small city famous for many things – it’s the home town of street artist Banksy, and the author of Harry Potter J.K. Rowling was born in a village nearby. I have a CELTA certificate from International House, London. I’ve been teaching English for more than 20 years in different countries, both online and face-to-face, with groups and individuals. I have been teaching courses of general and specific English – for business, medicine and the hospitality sector, as well as examination preparation lessons (IELTS, TOEFL and the Cambridge exams – FCE, CAE and CPE). I use a communicative approach that focuses on improving students' fluency and command of the English language on a wide range of topics, in particular when speaking and listening. From my experience, I have learned that students are typically afraid of making mistakes, and this prevents them from speaking fluently. In fact, the only way we can really learn is through understanding our mistakes and being shown how to correct them. As such, I have found that it is important to create a trustful atmosphere where students feel comfortable and able to take risks with language, helping them to gain confidence and improve their speaking skills in order to get successful results.
