I have a Diploma in teaching English online from London Teacher Training College in London, United Kingdom.
The role of an ELT teacher has long grown beyond just teaching grammar, lexis, and pronunciation. Progressing our learners’ life competencies is a vital part of this. Among the most important of these competencies is critical thinking, in particular its effectiveness, I am using online platforms that allow:
• live lessons online
• discussion forums moderated by the teacher
• collaborative group tasks without the teacher
• individual self-access study
It is based on the principle that live lessons give students the chance to speak and ask questions about issues they’re encountering. Students can complete other tasks such as reading and listening on their own and use the classroom to check answers.

Research-based and content-rich grammar series for beginning to advanced level students. The series focuses on the most commonly used English grammar structures and practices all four skills in a variety of authentic and communicative contexts.

It is during adolescence that we see an individual’s critical thinking ability evolve towards the complex processes used by adults. And while gamification and quizzes are traditionally widely used in the teaching of grammar and lexis, they also have vast potential to help our digitally-literate teens in this important stage of their development. Let’s see how.
• Word memory quizzes ask students to type the English word that matches the definition they are shown.
• Using flash cards, students read a definition and decide for themselves whether they know the corresponding word. They can then check their answer.
• Audio quizzes ask students to listen to a word being spoken, and to type what they hear.
We’ll begin with the poll feature found on most quiz platforms. Critical thinking questions and activities won’t invariably have a conclusive answer. So, polls and other ‘open-ended’ question types (among them, word clouds or brainstorm functions) are great for giving responses in these types of activities.
